Workshop "Research Project WELLE" - Methodical and practical solutions to calculate the total water footprint of companies

Where:

  • Maritim Hotel Stuttgart, Room Köln, Seidenstraße 34, 70174 Stuttgart

Cost:

  • free for all participants

Details:

In current industry practice water is managed and controlled at the production site only – even though the largest share of water is usually consumed in the energy and material upstream chains. In order to tackle this shortcoming, a method for analyzing the entire organizational water footprint has been developed within the research project WELLE funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. This are some of the project highlights:

  • The organizational water footprint method, a combination of Organizational LCA and the water footprint (ISO 14046), provides a powerful approach to identify the right hotspots for action
  • A free LCA-based online tool for calculating Organizational Water Footprints will be made available for organizations to start their journey in reducing their water footprint
  • Case studies provide orientation and valuable real-life insights including improvement measures conducted based on the results

The WELLE project is initiated by the Chair of Sustainable Engineering at TU Berlin in partnership with thinkstep. Deutsches Kupferinstitut e.V., Evonik AG, Neoperl GmbH, and Volkswagen AG are participating industry partners that support the project with case studies.
